Flying with IFRJH

Flight Server

To fly with the group it is suggested (but not required) you sign up HERE, and HERE

(If you have registered: you will be able to get server group Normal on Real FSX and be able to start training for ATC if you would like to.)

To Sign on the Real FSX Server:

SECOND: Download FSCopilot (this needs to be installed BEFORE installing FSInn), FSInn and the instructions for configuring FSInn WHICH YOU SHOULD ACTUALLY READ

  • Go to the Pilot Center
  • Under the first group of links (Server Options) click on the 'Downloads' link
  • This will take you to the downloads page - note the Pilot Manual is listed first - this is the instructions on installing an configuring FSCopilot and FSInn
  • If you do not already have FSUIPC installed (the free version will work) then download and install this first, otherwise you can skip this part
  • Download and install FSCopilot first, then proceed to the download and installation of FSInn.

If you need assistance e-mail or come to the VFR Prop Hops TeamSpeak channel - there is usually someone on that can help.

Start Flight Sim - IF YOU GET AN ERROR MESSAGE TRY THIS:

Go to the main Flight Sim folder - probably located somewhere like

C:\\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, or

C:\\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

or the equivalent path if you have X-Plane or other versions of Microsoft Flight Sim

Locate the file that starts your flight simulator - for FSX this is fsx.exe.  RIGHT click on the file name, select PROPERTIES from the drop-down menu.  Go to the COMPATABILITY tab and check the box that says 'RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR'.  Click 'Apply', then click 'OK'.

THIRD:  BACK TO THE INSTRUCTIONS on how to configure FSInn.  It is simple.  Remember that your Pilot ID is the ID number - not your user name from the website - although your Pilot password is usually the SAME as the one you used to join the VAT ME website.  (If that password does not work please verify your password with the VAT ME site administrator).

Since Virtual Air Traffic handles more than FSX, tell your friends and acquaintances using these other applications about the VAT server and have them join you (and, eventually, all of us) in a multi-player session !!

1. step2:Go to; Addons, FsCopilot, InnControll Panel, Click FP, Fill out these boxes, press send to tower.

1. step3: Check your Callsign, it should read: IJH(then your flight number) Eg: IJH01 (Ben) IJH02   (Dan), once callsign is verified, close the window, and click the VATME botton on the Control panel.

1. step4(Optional):Start up KaCars, fillout the information, and click start flight(If you dont use KaCars write down your time out, and fuel out)

1. step5:Enjoy the Fight!

1. step6: once you have landed and taxied to the gate, shut off the engine, and set the parking break.

1. step7: If you are using KaCars click stop flight, and click File Pirep(Flight Complete). If you are NOT using KaCars, write down the time in, and fuel in, and go Here Fill in all the info, and hit File Flight Report.(Flight Complete)

                                                   Option #2: Set Route

2. step1:Go the the Fights page on the website(Click Here), pick a flight you would like, click the download link for the file(if there is one), and move the files to the right directory

Flight Plans

Below is a list of flight plans - the list is updated periodically so check from time to time to see if there are additions.  If you have a specific request e-mail that request to [email protected] and we will try to accomodate you.

The need to read SIDs, STARs, approach plates and en-route charts must be appreciated.  Below are some examples of how you might violate a defined route if you do not have the appropriate documents and read and understand the information provided.

Pull up the National Three Departure including the Narrative Page.  Look specifically at the area shown at the left - you will see that there are specific instructions on how to depart from each runway.  These are defined by radials from the DCA VOR.

THE FLIGHT PLANS FROM KDCA DO NOT ACCOUNT FOR THESE HEADING REQUIREMENTS.  If you simply click on your GPS and hit autopilot you are likely to violate these required routes.

One means of maintaining the required heading would to set you VOR frequency and Omni Bearing Selector or HSI needle to the desired heading (this depends on the runway you use, as described in the narrative).  Once you have climbed to a safe altitued you can either fly the plane manually or engage the autopilot (in the NAV mode, not the GPS mode) and allow the autopilot to move to and hold the required heading.
Open the HOPEA1 departure SID for KLGA.  This one has no narrative section - it's all on one page.  The flight plans that use this departure from La Guardia will use the Canarsie (CRI) VOR as the transition to the remainder of the flight plan.  BUT - as the Departure Route Description at the bottom of the page tells you - you are to "... cross CRI VOR/DME at or above 5000, then on a heading of 220 deg for vectors on course."  So, if your next fix after CRI was the Robbinsville (RBV) VOR (see the left side of the plate, a bit below the middle of the page on the left) and you were letting your GPS fly the plane at this point you would turn to the southwest, well off the prescribed 220 deg course you should follow after crossing CRI.

In this case you might use your GPS to fly you to the HOPEA waypoint and then on to CRI.  Between HOPEA and CRI you could switch to 'Heading Hold' on your autopilot (in FSX the default key mapping is [Ctrl] [H] - this not only turns on the heading hold function of the autopilot but moves your heading bug to the current heading - which should be the HOPEA to CRI heading.  Once you cross CRI turn your heading bug to 220 degrees and hold that heading until ATC clears you or vectors you to your route.  Note that ATC may clear you to your route before you get to CRI - in which case you can count this as a bit of luck, but remember you still have to go to CRI first before you proceed to on course.
Open the FLCON8 arrival to KATL.  No narrative page for this one either.  Note that in the lower portion of the plate, as shown at the left, there are waypoints for aircraft landing both east and west.  The flight plans provided by IFR Jet Hops do split the upper and lower routes (for Rwy 08L/R and 26L/R and another for Rwy 09L/R, 10, 27L/R and 28).  BUT - the portion for landing either east or west is included in both.  See the notation at COSEL regarding Landing West - expect vectors to the approach after COSEL.  So, if you let you GPS fly you after passing COSEL you could end up on the wrong end of the airport.  HOWEVER - if for some reason you were not given vectors or were unable to comply with the required turns you should continue to (assuming a Rwy 26L/R intented approach) WORFF - DOEV - NOFIV - NOTRE - WOTBA.  So, it is included in the flight plan even though you would not expect to use this part when landing to the west.

If you are landing to the east (assuming a Rwy 08L/R approach) you would cross the waypoints identified above as they are shown on the plate until you get to WOTBA.  Note that WOTBA is a fly-over, not a fly-by waypoint.  Per the instructions, you are to expect vectors to the approach after WOTBA so if you cross WOTBA and have not received further instructions from ATC you must hod the heading (275 deg) that took you across the series of waypoints from WORFF to WOTBA.  However, if you have left the flying to 'Otto'pilot and are still on GPS mode you will find yourself turning (in a manner consistent with a fly-by turn) at WOTBA.  So - here again you may want to switch to the heading hold mode of the autopilot on the heading to WOTBA and once you get vectors either hand fly or turn you heading bug to the headings as given by ATC.
